Concern regarding exceedingly high rates of denial and high volumes of cases reviewed in that process at Disability Determination Services in Tennessee led to the Government Accountability Office undertaking an investigation into this issue. Across the country, doctors who are consultants in cases referred by the Social Security Administration are paid on a per case basis which can create incentive to quickly review and maximize the number of cases reviewed.
